The Artists

Laser Eagles artists have a variety of abilities that they use in the creation of their art. The facilitation of their work is individualized to fully utilize each artist's unique abilities. The artist may wear a laser pointer on the arm, leg, head (or any part of their body) and use the light beam to indicate their intention.

The laser artist also uses the light beam to indicate choice of brush type and size, colour, density, and texture of paint, and style of brush stroke. Artists also use their voice or their normal mode of communication (facial expression, communication boards, symbols, et cetera).

The tracker follows the light beam to determine what colour, method, placement and direction to put paint on the canvas, manifesting the artist's vision.

Meet the Artists

Greg Gress

Greg Gress has been an artist with the Laser Eagles Art Guild for about 3 years. He was diagnosed with celebral palsy for most of his life, and operates a mechanical wheelchair with a built-in voice system as his method of communication. Greg is a committed, passionate artist that attends sessions regularly, even though his residence is distant and requires Wheel Trans to attend.

He recently discovered an interest in portrait painting and has completed pieces mimicking famous personalities such as Miley Cyrus, Global Television’s Susan Hay and characters from YTV’s Prank Patrol. His goal is to eventually create portraits for members of his community, as he is an active member of his church and likes to participate in various Laser Eagles events.

Felicia Galati

Felicia Galati has been an artist with the Laser Eagles Art Guild since the formation of the Guild in 2005- 2006. As a longtime member of the Guild, Felicia has watched the transformation of the Guild unfold and has participated in the growth of the organization. Felicia was born with a seizure disorder, and lacks speech for communication. However, she communicates in a variety of different ways and as a result, her artistic expression has expanded tremendously. Felicia will be featured in Judith Snow’s upcoming ROM exhibit as a Laser Eagles artist.

Chloe Shard

Chloe has also been an artist with the Guild for the past three years. Chloe is an avid abstract painter, dabbling in vibrant colours and various textures. With the assistance from Vlasa, her personal caregiver with a great artistic talent, she recently began painting landscapes and nature scenery. Chloe was born with a similar condition as Felicia. With the help of Judith Snow, she was admitted into a Toronto high school, although there was much controversy surrounding her acceptance. However, she became the first high school graduate having completed the curriculum using a simple 2-choice method. Now 28-years-old, Chloe will continue to voice herself through her art and be a shining example of inclusion in her community.

Sasha Robinson

Sasha has been a member of the Laser Eagles Art Guild for several years, and has successfully sold some of her paintings that were completed during our sessions. As a paid artist, she loves creating vast landscapes and using calendar photos as inspiration. She attends a school as part of the March of Dimes in Scarborough. Sasha was born with a condition that has kept her in an electric wheelchair for most of her life; however, her speech communication is impeccable, and rarely needs assistance when painting. As an only child from a family of strong Jamaican descent, Sasha is determined to grow as a professional artist and display more of her work throughout the Toronto community.
