The Program

The Laser Eagles artists gather every week to create art that is generated solely from their own artistic visions. While in the past the Laser Eagles have utilized laser pointers to guide their trackers in their painting, they have recently discovered their abilities to communicate without them, and producing various pieces of artwork that are still exceptional in their own rite. Each artists’ capabilities are unique – some have a lack of mobility, others speech. And therefore, their methods in creating art are all different. "Trackers" - volunteer artist assistants or facilitators - spend a great deal of time each session to fully understand the artist’s vision and purpose for their art, and to execute it exactly the way the artists wish. In this sense, the artist’s contributions to the art form are unique, as it requires a collaborative effort between the artist and the tracker.

Each tracker is paired with a specific artist, to create a bond and relationship between the tracker and artist. The most important element of being a tracker is to understand when the artist wants them to "start” and "stop”. Beyond picking colours, textures, and other artistic elements during the session, the "start” and "stop” commands from the tracker will be communicated mostly of his or her vision. How the artist communicates instructions will vary from person to person, and the strength of the relationship between tracker and artist is imperative in understanding one another.

The Laser Eagles Art Guild is one of the only art organizations in the Greater Toronto Area that provides fully-inclusive environments for those who have been labeled with a disability. The programs that the Guild offers are also designed in a way that they are fully sustainable, and can be tailored to every environment where there is a need for these artists to express themselves. The goal is to provide a fully-inclusive environment, through art, in every Toronto neighbourhood, in order to generate awareness on inclusion. We believe it begins in Toronto, but will eventually be a worldwide movement.
